What are Nestable Pallets?

Pallets are platforms used for storing and shipping purposes. They can be made of a variety of materials, but are most often constructed of wood or plastic. Nestable pallets are designed to nest or fit within other pallets when empty.

A nestable pallet is used just like other types of pallets. Basically, products are loaded onto a nestable pallet and shrinkwrapped or strapped in place. Nestable pallets are used for transporting goods in a variety of industries, ranging from retail to food processing and just about everything in between.

Typically made of plastic, nestable pallets offer users the ability to save storage space. They can be piled quite high, in tight, neat stacks. This may help to decrease storage-related costs dramatically. Nestable pallets are also lighter than wooden or metal pallets and may serve to decrease shipping costs.

When compared to wooden pallets, nestable pallets may be useful for reducing the risk of physical injury. Those using these lighter-weight pallets may be less likely to experience back and wrist injuries. The risk of being pricked or scratched by nails or splinters is eliminated as well.

Nestable pallets come in a variety of shapes and sizes. They are generally designed to be easy to maneuver using forklifts or pallet jacks. Many are made with convenient handholds for maneuvering by hand as well.

Plastic nestable pallets are also considered advantageous when longer pallet life and cleanliness are important. When compared to wooden pallets, plastic nestable pallets are often less prone to breakage and easier to keep clean and free of insects. In many situations, plastic nestable pallets are easier on the stored or transported products as well. Since there are no nails or splinters with which to contend, there is far less risk of product damage.

Plastic nestable pallets may also be friendlier to the environment. Because they are considered more cost effective for storage and less vulnerable to breakage, they are less likely to be discarded after use. Furthermore, many nestable pallets are 100% recyclable.

It is worth noting that nestable pallets and stackable pallets are confused by some. The two are not the same. Nestable pallets fit together when not in use, while stackable pallets are simply piled on top of each other.
